Based on the "Christian" behavior I've seen from one of resident website spammers in this thread, I agree with Gandhi: "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."

Active witnesses have disfellowshipped friends on Facebook
by truthseeker ini have noticed at least two active witnesses who have disfellowshipped friends on their facebook account.
it's certainly a. middle finger to the governing body who say that we should not even say hello to such a person.. each facebook friend has to be "approved" so what does this say about the attitudes of the rank and file?.

When a JW has a DF'd person on their facebook account, there could be two reasons.
1. They haven't been to the 2009-2010 Special Assembly Day yet. Or,
2. They aren't going to let the WT decide who they can talk to.
Back around 5 years ago there was a Service Meeting part about not being on Facebook AT ALL. Don't know whether it was just in certain circuits or all over, but it's clearly out of sight/out of mind right now. LOTS of JWs on Facebook, and quite a few with DF'd people as Facebook "friends."

What happened to the "great crowd" ???
by 1914BS ini noticed the complete abscence of any reference to the great crowd in recent watchtower magazines.. the latest jan 15 2010 wt now calls the "other sheep" rank and file witnesses the ......"growing crowd" i think you'll find that on the last page of that wt.
has the interpretation of the "great crowd" changed again?
it seems the anointed class has now stolen both the titles "generation" and "great crowd" any thoughts on this?.

It all depends on which is the preferred phrase of the guy writing the article. Some prefer "other sheep" and some prefer "great crowd". An increasing number seem to prefer calling the rank and file, "belongings entrusted to the Faithful and Discreet Slave," and yes, they capitalize it as if it is a formal title, not just some phrase ripped from one of Jesus' parables.

I find it illogical for people to believe in "Religion"

Religion fills a psychological need people have. That's the logic. A philosopher (Dostoevsky maybe?) said, "if there were no god, man would have invented him." (or something to that effect)
Religion fills the needs of those lusting for power and those needing to be overruled. It is the free man with the free mind who doesn't perceive its worth to those ensnared by it.

It's worth considering that The God, the one who was Jesus' Father and whom he prayed to, was not the same god the Jews had been worshipping all along.

Are there any links to public records, news stories, etc. relating to these JW suicides? I'd like to show my wife but she's not ready to come to this forum yet. Thanks.

No natural affection? Jehovahs Witnesses fulfill this scripture
by jambon1 inanyone who can turn their back on their flesh & blood sons and daughters, mothers and fathers fulfill this prophecy perfectly.. people who do this are utterly unloving & cruel.
it has lead thousands of people to feel issolated, alone & in many cases suicidal.
how can such a thing originate with god?.

Excellent point about the mental health angle. When you're just a rank and filer not really "reaching out" you might not notice as much because you don't cross paths with the guys in charge very often, or outside of ritual meeting behaviors (which are loony enough). When you "reach out" and aspire to become a MS and then actually become a lackey for the elders, then you see just how twisted their groupthink is.
I thank the "Holy Spirit" for appointing me a MS because otherwise I'd probably never have seen up close what a bunch of tools and ignoramuses are running our lives.
Can't wait until I can get my parents, wife, and kids out. I'll be right behind them...

OT God YHWH versus Jesus' Father
by Mad Sweeney ini'm starting to think they're not the same being.

From what I can gather, the gnostic understanding is kind of like Valentine Michael Smith's. "Thou art god." Everything came from The One and everything has a piece of Him in them. They believe Jesus is actually the son of that One and His feminine counterpart Sophia, who depending on who you ask was either the opposite side of the Father-god coin or that Father-god's first offspring. Yaldabaoth is considered to be the offspring solely of Sophia who created him on her own without guidance, permission, or input from the Father. Yaldabaoth went on and created our world, The God forgave Sophia, then Sophia and her/their Son spent the rest of their time in opposition to Yaldabaoth (who became the YHWH of the OT).
It's all pretty new to me right now but quite fascinating. Their take on Jesus as the counter to the OT god is pretty interesting stuff.

Satanus, I think your question was probably directed at me. Yes, I am entertaining some gnostic thoughts lately. I'm not a gnostic but am interested in their (and any others, for that matter) perspective on things right now. I am finding it fascinating that there is far more diversity of thought regarding the God(s) of that one book than I was ever led to believe as a JW. The Gnostics, the Jesus Sutras, you name it and I'm interested in reading it. And discussing it.
Some of their information is so compelling that they'd almost have me convinced.
